Change of Tissue and Microenvironment Following Lymphatic Injury
Suh Mi-Ri
Abstract
Injured lymphatic system during cancer treatment undergoes chronic inflammation via T cell mediated immune response, leading to increased lymphatic leakiness, decreased lymphatic pumping, and increased tissue fibrosis. New lymphatic vessels are regenerated by lymphangiogenesis in effort to restore the injured lymphatic pathways. Detour pathways and dermal backflows are other anatomical responses to develop new lymphatic drainage pathway following the injury.
